How to AVOID back pain
Back pain is a condition that can usually be avoided by following some basic guidelines:
Maintain a good posture throughout the day in sitting and standing positions can decrease or eliminate most back pain. Check out our previous blog which talks about sitting posture at work! Although you may not be able to maintain a perfect posture all day, take the time every hour to do a quick posture check and correct any faulty postural habits. Maintaining a good posture as best you can will help minimize any symptoms you have or reduce your risk for developing any back condition.
Using good lifting mechanics is another way to minimize your risk for developing back pain. Make sure the object that you are lifting is close to your body. Lift items below the waist using your legs and not your back. Have a partner lift items that are too bulky or heavy to manage with only one person. Do not twist using your back, pivot your feet. Following these lifting guidelines will improve your back safety.
Exercise is a great way to build strength of your core stabilizers, postural muscles and maintain a healthy weight for your body type. If you have back pain, it is important to keep your body moving to prevent any loss of strength or flexibility as well as decrease your pain.
